On behalf of its members the BALR has links with
a number of scientific organisations where it seeks to represent the
interests of its members and seeks to promote the work of the
Association.
UK Respiratory Research Collaborative
Through the BALR Chairman we have representation on the UK
Respiratory Research Collaborative (UKRRC).
This organisation was launched in 2006 under the Chairmanship of
Professor Stephen Holgate, following a number of workshops where
respiratory professional and charitable groups met to identify how
best to take forward the research agenda. A report was produced which
prioritised key areas for respiratory research development
More information on UKRRC, including the initial
report ('Raising the Profile' ), can be
found here: http://www.brit-thoracic.org.uk/page359.html

The British Thoracic Society
The BALR organises an annual one-day meeting as part of The
British Thoracic Society (BTS) winter meeting. At the same meeting
the Association is also involved with the award of the BTS/BLF/BALR
Young Investigator of the year awards
The BTS was formed in 1982 by the amalgamation of the British Thoracic
Association and the Thoracic Society. It has grown over the last few
years to include medical practitioners, nurses, scientists and any
professional with an interest in respiratory disease.
